This Lego set is worth the money, considering you can build 3 dinosaur models from 1 kit! My 7-year old twins love it and it is a great family activity. The set comes with 3 instruction booklets where your children learn to follow the diagrams to build their dinosaurs. It challenges their mind while having fun. The process of constructing encourages thinking as they translate 2 dimensional pictures to 3 dimensional objects. With smaller pieces, the set also encourages manual dexterity. One disadvantage is the somewhat complex designs and the time it takes to finish one figure, which can frustrate a young child who will end up walking away from his/her project. Additionally, the instruction booklet could use better fidelity in showing the piece colors. For some colors, what is shown in the booklet does not quite match the color of the actual piece, which can lead to assembly mistakes. When this happens, you end up pulling a bunch of pieces apart and going back to the drawing board. The same observation holds for how the pieces are illustrated versus how the pieces actually look. Finally, it is very easy to lose parts as some of them are no bigger than 1cm. But, at the end of they day, when your kid decides to walk away from the project, you can always pick it up and finish it yourself! No one said this set is for kids only :D

Legos can be expensive, but this one is worth every penny. It comes with THREE instruction books to make 3 different dinos, all with glowing red eyes. There are a lot of pieces to keep your kid busy for a long time, and it's also fun to play with when finished. I'm probably going to buy a 2nd one!

This isn't 1 dinosaur as the title implies but 3 models in 1 kit! You child (or inner child) gets all the pieces and directions for stegosaurus, t-rex, and pteradon.
At first I was a little worried about my 6 year old kindergartner managing a lego puzzle with 731 pieces. But once I gave him a little guidance on t-rex (of course he wanted to make t-rex first!) he did great mostly on his own with steggy and petri with just a little help troubleshooting and fixing from me. Probably the biggest thing he needed help with was sorting 700 pieces so he could find what he needed.
Steggy uses the most pieces, there were only 10-20 left meaning he managed to put together more than 700 pieces. Each dino took all Saturday afternoon and most of Sunday afternoon, making them all great rainy cold winter weekend projects. He was so happy with his accomplishments, I just can't say enough about how great they are from the tips of their spiky feet claws, to their swinging tails, to the light up eyes (his favorite). I'm also amazed at the swivel joints Lego has created to let the dino parts move.
This toy is a steal at $[...] when you consider it's 3 models in 1 kit and how much fun a 6 year old boy has with dinosaurs. Still, I'm a little surprised amazon doesn't appear to carry this directly and only has it with 3rd party retailers.
