The TIE "display stand" actually is used for refilling the fuel tank. Also, TIEs cannot land on their wings without damaging them. The "display stand" is of much use.

The Tie is a great lego set! It comes with a one-of-a-kind Imperial Pilot and a sort-of-rare Stormtrooper. No offense to those of you who like models, but I see completely NO USE FOR THE DISPLAY STAND! With twin laser cannons, huge wings, cool cockpit, neat minifigures, HOW COULD YOU EVER LET IT ROT AND WASTE AWAY ON A STUPID OLD DISPAY STAND?!?!?!? I think this Twin Ion Engine masterpiece is the key to lego fun!
OTHER FEATURES:Wings can come off to customize or simulate crash.
If you don't want the display stand (like myself) it can be converted into a fuel station, super blaster and more!
Cockpit (With a cool design) opens up and locks when closed to stop annoying,unwanted,mid-play cockpit openings. Altogether, the Tie Fighter is a superb set and I'd give it 1,000,000 stars if I could! BUY THIS SET IF YOU CAN!!!!!

The Tie Fighter is awesome, and this Lego version holds up to the coolness of the original ship design. The wings can pop off for pretend damage and it also comes with a stand to display it. The Tie Fighter also comes with two figures, an Emperial Fighter Pilot and a cooler than cool Storm Trooper. It's a lot of fun to put together and it's so cool that you'll want to buy more of them! A great addition to any Star Wars collection.

This TIE fighter is a great Lego set. It will fall apart if handled too much, but if you just leave it on the stand it is very durable. One thing I don't like about it is that it uses bright blue bricks for the wing patterns, not grey as seen in the movie. Also, when the cockpit comes up, the front part comes up as well as the top part, unlike Darth Vader's TIE, which just has the top part come up. I really liked the addition of a stormtrooper, which is the first Lego one ever. I will probably buy Ewok Attack for another one. If you have Vader's TIE but not the regular one, buy two so you can create the scene of Vader and his two wingmen. An awesome set. Perfect for Star Wars freaks like me or all Lego fans!

I also don't like how when you open up the cockpit, the front piece comes up too, unlike the Darth Vader TIE fighter, which only has the top part come off. By making the front part of the TIE fighter come up also, it will come off because it isn't on a good hinge. I really liked the addition of a stormtrooper, which is the first Lego one ever.
