My son just had his 5th birthday and invited his classmates to a party. That means he got all the typical boy toys. His interest in train sets was waning, so when people asked what to get him, I suggested building sets.
He got several, including this one.
Our only exposure to K'nex was the Kid K'nex Playground Pals- 80 pcs that he received for Christmas when he was 3 1/2. He liked those, but could never manipulate and build the creatures himself.
Not so with this Police vehicle building kit, for ages 5 and up. The step by step instructions are clear, and with me looking on, he was able to build it himself.
Some of the pieces are very very small, and several times pieces fell off as we were trying to get the helicopter together. However, this is a big developmental plus for me and is why I gave it 5 stars for educational value. He will be entering Kindergarten in the fall, and fine motor skills are something that he needs to work on. In addition, the act of following instructions and evaluating which pieces come next, hone his skills in that area.
I also like that from this one kit, he can build 2 different vehicles (not to mention combining with other kits to build even more).
