This was bought for our 5-year old, who really likes Lego. He's able to put it together himself, though it takes him quite a while and the occasional helping hand.
He loves this toy, especially the panel that blasts off on impact. His favorite game is running the 'beast' into the wall and watching the panel fly. This racer is sturdy and takes quite a beating without any of the important parts falling off. I'm also really impressed by how well our 2-year old is able to play with it (when he can get his hands on it).
We do have another racer, a LEGO 8139 Night Blazer, which is also a lot of fun, but I think this is sturdier and needs less work to get it back together after a lot of play.
