I really enjoy my dwarven mine set. The different mine carts and carriers are awesome, and there are lots of moving and interactive parts like the mine carts, the ore shaft, the catapult, the doors, and the hoisting mill. The dwarf and troll minifigs are really cool, my only complaint might be that more shields for both the dwarves and the trolls would have been nice. Lots of combinations of parts that I would not have thought of myself, like the war hammer and the anvil. All in all an awesome set!

It was a few weeks before Christmas and every where I went on the internet "Lego Castle Dwarves Mine" was out of stock,it made my day when I found this toy at amazon. I was concerned the Castle wouldn't arrive at my home in time for Christmas, but to my surprise it arrived quickly and in perfect condition. My grandson was so thrilled when he opened it up on Christmas Eve, his mom says he plays with the castle for hours,he just loves it.

If you are looking for generic Lego dwarfs and ogres, this is the best value for money Lego set that you can invest in. It comes with four dwarfs, two ogres and a brown troll (the troll in other sets is green). In my opinion this set provides the most functionalities and gadgets that you can play with and interchange amongst the characters. It comes with the following:
i. two quarry carriages that tips to empty loads, and moves along a short rail track
ii. two castle doors
iii. one finger-press catapult
iv. one pulley with its own removable bucket (with a 0.5m string)
v. one rail bucket that empties contents into the carriages or the slide
vi. one movable slide that tips load into a container
vii. three foldable ladders
viii. one troll that grips (and can fit attachments that you can invent)
ix. three shields for the dwarfs and one for an ogre
x. plenty of weapons for the dwarfs, in addition to two pickaxes and a hammer, a spare helmet and amour suit (for a non-combatant minifig!)
xi. one (turkey?) drumstick, two goblets, three barrels
Education value: pulley, trolleys, slide, throw catapult, social hierarchy, castle defense, economics!!!
The dwarfs can only stand because of their size, unlike other standard Lego minifigs. The dwarf king holds an Arkenstone, and you can name the dwarfs and even the ogres after Tolkien's characters. The ogres' helmets differ from that of the three characters Lego 7040 smaller set (if you are collecting minifigs). The Lego 7036 is a good buy and I am totally satisfied with it.

The Lego castle dwarf mine is my favorite Lego set!
PROS:
Fun to build, trolls are cool, the catapult is great and I love the mine train and giant troll.
CONS:
Only comes with 4 dwarf mini figures, kind of small and only 3 trolls.
So these are my reasons for rating this amazing Lego set.
